Team Summary:
Hancock started fast and got some help from Whitfield with three starters committed two fouls a piece in the first quarter but was winning 15-9 after one quarter and was a lot more athletic that Whitfield thought. The second quarter they committed five turnovers tat four points were scored off of them. Whitfield took ten more shots than them and outscored them 20-12 and Hancock was losing by two at the half 29-27. The third quarter they lost three more points but stayed close and wouldn’t go away . The fourth quarter they had to foul and stayed close but Whitfield hit the free throws seven from eight at the free throw line. They got within two points a few times but couldn’t get even with them. They didn’t have an answer for Watson but did a lot better than the 29 point drubbing in last year’s district championship.

Whitfield in the first quarter had three starters with two fouls and was down 15-9 after one quarter. The second quarter #5) Torrence Watson got more involved with the offense and scored 10 points in the second quarter. The turnovers in the second quarter they had one to Hancock’s five.The score at the half Whitfield 29-27. The third quarter #5) Watson went to the basket and was fouled and hit five for six from the line and scored a basket and added three points to their lead. Whitfield led 44-39 after three quarters. The fourth quarter Hancock sttod tough but Whitfield’s #5) Torrence Watson hit seven of eight free throws to keep Hancock from ever tying the game in the fourth quarter and the final score Whitfield 55-51. Whitfield going to the sectional for the third year.

The fourth quarter they slowed it down and both teams combined for 10 points with Duchesne scoring six points and at the end of regulation the score was tied at 42. Northwest never led but had an answer everytime Duchesne scored and was tied at 47 after one overtime. The second overtime they scored the first four points in the overtime and Duchesne could never get even and they had to foul and Northwest went for 7 for 8 from the line and won the game 60-51. They have a solid five.

Team Summary:

They started the second half with a 19-1 run tht was helped by Webster’s five turnovers during the run and was leading 49-34 with 5:46 left in the third quarter and they ended up with 31 points in the third quarter to be leading 61-50 after three quarters. Webster Groves got the big lead down to four points 68-64 with 3:23 left. It was down to three 73-70 with :45 left in the game. 2. (2) Belleville West (22-2) losses were to #4) Chaminade and to an out of town team. They beat Webster Groves without Gordon. They beat a good Champaign Central twice, and has beaten the Southwestern Conference 12-0 the toughest conference in the Metro area. They are the only Metro team to beat #4 SS) Confluence
3. (4) Webster Groves (14-7) they have only two losses when Gordon and Ramey play and they are to national power houses Oak Hill and Brentwood (Tenn). Gordon is back from suspension. They have a tough schedule ahead.

7. (10) Liberty (18-6) they beat a very good Fort Zumwalt South on 2/7. They have losses to #6 LS) Parkway Central 2-1, #1 LS) Hazelwood Central, #7 SS) Trinity, Fort Zumwalt West twice. They have a must see in Catchings brothers.

2. (2) St. Mary’s (22-3) losses were to LS#3) Hazelwood Central, Duchesne and #1 LS) Chaminade. They got revenge from Chaminade and beat them by 42 points and also beat Duchesne in overtime.
3. (3) Confluence (21-4) are on a 11 game winning streak and their losses were to #4 LS) Belleville West and out of town team that beat Belleville West and another out of town team. They are a must see with two top 10 scorers in the area Brandon Fredrick and Leon Perry
4. (4) Alton Marquette (27-0) their loses were to no one and probably not getting enough credit for being the only undefeated team in the area.
5. (5) Jennings (21-3) lost to Decatur MacArthur in the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout in double overtime. Their other losses to Whitfield and Hazelwood Central.
6. (6) Northwest Academy (17-6) defending state champs have losses to #2 SS) St. Mary’s ,#4 LS) Webster Groves and to four out of Metro teams.

Team Summary:
Fort Zumwalt South only led twice and the last time was 13-12 with 1:15 left in the first quarter. They really only one option today on offense and that was #5) EJ Bellinger that had a game high 26 (Post has 28). #24) Darious Thomas (8 points) tried to take some of the load but he went 0 for 7 in the first quarter and did have a good fourth quarter but shot 3 for 14 from the field. They didnt have an answer for Liberty’s #24) Kale Catchings inside but alot of teams has that problem. They got out rebounded 32-26 and took 22 three pointers. They tried hard but was second best today but have another chance at them on 2/20.

Liberty doesn’t get enough credit on how they play defense. They play physical and nobody backs away. They held a team that only lost two games till today to 17/51 from the field(33%). They best them on the boards. They didn’t have an answer for #5) Bellinger but they kept every one else in single digits. They hit all 10 of their free throws in the fourth quarter. They had 12 second chance points to South’s six. #24) Kale Catchings had 23 points and probably the best game I’ve seen from him this year. They play each other on the 20th at South.

Team Summary:
Whitfield started five seniors and two of them didnt come back in the game after playing the whole first quarter. Whitfield started out fast with #5) Watson scoring eight points in the first 2:34 of the game. They did have six turnovers though. The second quarter they only scored 11 points in the second quarter. The third quarter they went 1 for 10 from the field and only scored six points in the third quarter and lost the lead and was losing by six points. The fourth quarter they were 3 for 15 from the field and 2pt 0 for 8 but stayed close with 10/10 from the line. #5) Watson scored a game high 29 points and didnt have anyone else in double figures. #5) Torrence Watson had a tough game and shot selection was suspect.

Westminster started off slow offensively but was only down four after one and was even in the second quarter and the score was Whitfield 28-24. The defense was better in the second half holding Whitfield to a 4/25 from the field but free throws keep them in the game with being 13/14 in the second half. Westminster shot 12/25 from the field. #15) Brennan Orf scored ten of Westminster’s points in a row in the third quarter. #22) Logan Montgomery hit four threes with :34 left in the third and 5:35 left in the fourth. They haeld them at bay and once they took the lead with 2:08 left in the third 34-33 they neve lost the lead and was only tied once at 34 with 1:48 left in the third. Bolingbrook was without all state guard Kaleb Thornton Guard SR 6’1″ and has offers from lower D1 programs. The first quarter they only attempted 12 shots to Lanphier’s 21 shots because of turnovers and couldn’t get any rebounds. The first half they committed 12 turnovers and 16 points scored off of them. The only thing keeping them in the game was that Lanphier shot 10/38 in the first half. They did better with turnovers in the third quarter with only two and out scored Lanphier 15-13 the only quarter they outscored them. They got within two points in the second half but never got even and put up a good fight but lost all the stats battles look at Lanphier summary.

Springfield Lanphier won every battle the rebound battle 45-33, turnover battle 16-20, points off turnovers 23-17, and the second chance points 19-6 but only won by six points. They shot a bad 34% from the field, 37% from 2pt and 23% from 3pt but did well at the stripe 19/24 79%. They play excellent defense and have a solid five or six. They are ranked #3 in IL 3a and it looks well deserved.
