Team Summary:
Hancock started fast and got some help from Whitfield with three starters committed two fouls a piece in the first quarter but was winning 15-9 after one quarter and was a lot more athletic that Whitfield thought. The second quarter they committed five turnovers tat four points were scored off of them. Whitfield took ten more shots than them and outscored them 20-12 and Hancock was losing by two at the half 29-27. The third quarter they lost three more points but stayed close and wouldn’t go away . The fourth quarter they had to foul and stayed close but Whitfield hit the free throws seven from eight at the free throw line. They got within two points a few times but couldn’t get even with them. They didn’t have an answer for Watson but did a lot better than the 29 point drubbing in last year’s district championship.
Whitfield in the first quarter had three starters with two fouls and was down 15-9 after one quarter. The second quarter #5) Torrence Watson got more involved with the offense and scored 10 points in the second quarter. The turnovers in the second quarter they had one to Hancock’s five.The score at the half Whitfield 29-27. The third quarter #5) Watson went to the basket and was fouled and hit five for six from the line and scored a basket and added three points to their lead. Whitfield led 44-39 after three quarters. The fourth quarter Hancock sttod tough but Whitfield’s #5) Torrence Watson hit seven of eight free throws to keep Hancock from ever tying the game in the fourth quarter and the final score Whitfield 55-51. Whitfield going to the sectional for the third year.
