Large Schools
1.(2) Chaminade (14-2) is on a roll winning the very tough Chick-fil-a Tourney at Belleville East with an overtime win over the previosly unbeaten n the St. Louis are #4) Belleville West and a 20 point win in the Semis against a very good St. Mary’s Team.
2. (3) Webster Groves (9-6) but with Ramey back they are 5-2 and the losses were to nationally ranked Oak Hill Academy and Brentwood Academy (TN). We will find out how good they are locally with match ups with 2/3 #4) Belleville West at O’Fallon, IL, 2/15 #1 SS) Vashon at Meramec and 2/20 at #3) Hazelwood Central
3. (4) Hazelwood Central (18-1) only loss was to a very Good Orr Academy from Chicago on 12/16 since then on a 11 game winning streak. They have a tough schedule coming up 2/9 Rock Bridge, 2/20 #2) Webster Groves and on 2/11 at #1SS) Vashon
4. (1) Belleville West (17-2) probably not fair dropping three spots on an overtime loss to #1) Chaminade in the championship of the Chick-fil-A Tourney. They play 2/3 #2) Webster Groves at O’Fallon, IL.
5. (6) Francis Howell (16-3) on a 11 game winning streak after to losing to a hot Trinity team in the MICDS Holiday Tourney. They had #3) Hazelwood on the hook and let them off in a three overtime classic. They have a solid five of six. They will have a lot of wins.
6. (7) Parkway Central (14-3) is on a seven game winning streak after to losing to a good Duchesne team in the MICDS Holiday Tourney. I’m not sure competition level is the same as the top four. They might see #3) Hazelwood Central in the Championship of the Ameritime Classic at Parkway West on Friday. They are a must see with DeAndre Campbell.
7. (10) Fort Zumwalt South (14-2) is on a seven game winning streak after a loss to a very good Springfield Glendale team. The level of competition not the same as top four but could have two losses going into the state tournament.
8.) (8) Edwardsville (12-6) have losses to the hit or miss Alton and a good Centralia team since last rankings. They are not as good as last year but have a showdown with #4) Belleville West on 1/26 .They have an old school player in Jack Marinko and he is a must see.
9. (12) Collinsville (13-8) have loses to #3) Belleville West and Highland since last rankings but no other teams made significant moves so they move up. They have the best sophomore in the area in Ray’Sean Taylor.
10. (5)Hillsboro (17-1) left the undefeated ranks with an overtime loss in the first round of the Ameritime Classic by an average Lafayette team. They had a good win against a good Jeff City Helias team in the MFA Classic in Columbia on 1/20. They have a player in Gavin Pinkley.
Honorable Mention: 11. Alton (11-7) 12. Kirkwood (12-4), 13. Hazelwood East (12-5), 14. Vianney (12-7), 15. Ladue (12-5)
Small Schools
1. (1) Vashon (12-2) losses to #1 LS) Chaminade and Jonesboro Ark both really good teams. They won a Topeka KS tourney last week. They have a must see in Mario McKinney. Always tough no different this year. Tough Schedule ahead
2. (2) St. Mary’s (16-3) first loss in Coaches vs Cancer against LS#3) Hazelwood Central.They lost to a good Duchesne and was playing their sixth game in seven days . They had a bad loss to #1 LS) Chaminade in the Chick-fil-A tourney but came right back and beat a good Champaign Central team for 3rd place. They were missing Miles Jones in the tourney stress fracture.
3. (7) Confluence (18-4) are on a eight game winning streak and their losses were to #4 LS) Belleville West a out of town team that beat Belleville West and another out of town team. They are a must see with two top 10 scorers in the area Brandon Fredrick and Leon Perry
4. (3) Jennings (17-2) their losses were to #3 LS) Hazelwood Central and #7) Whitfield. They have some good wins #10) Duchesne (2), Cardinal Ritter, #6) #15 LS) Trinity, Ladue
5. (5) Alton Marquette (21-0) no losses here and keeps winning. They probably don’t get the respect they deserve.
6. (4) Trinity (14-2) they had two good wins against Duchesne and #7) Cardinal Ritter and are on a 11 game winning streak but hasn’t played anyboday since so they dropped a couple places.
7. (9) Cardinal Ritter (14-7) losses to #4) Jennings, #6) Trinity, #1) Vashon, #13 LS) Hazelwood East, and three out of town teams including a good Bloomington team. They have a tough schedule
8. (10) Northwest Academy (13-6) locally #2) St. Mary’s and #2 LS) Webster Groves and the other four losses from out of town teams. The defending state champs have one of the toughest schedules in the area.
9. (6) Whitfield (13-6) they have two losses since last rankings against a very good Sikeston team at Columbia and a loss to an up and coming Pattonville team that has beaten two ranked teams in the last week. They have a must see in Mizzou recruit Torrence Watson.
10. (8) Duchesne (13-5) local losses to #9) Whitfield, #6) Trinity, #4) Jennings (2) and a very good Pinckneyville team. They have wins against #2) St. Mary’s, #6 LS) Parkway Central and #15 LS) Ladue.
