First Quarter Summary:
Howell North started with a three from #31) Fletcher Dietrich. Kirkwood answered with a 5 point run all by #1) Tahj Telfair. North’s #31) Dietrich ties the game with a bucket at five and #1) Justin Matthews-Williams scores a basket to give North a 7-5 lead. Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair scores the next three to give Kirkwood a 8-7 lead with 3:22 left in the first. North”s #31) Dietrich hits two free throws to make it North 9-8. Kirkwood answers with a 6-0 run to make it 14-9 with 28 seconds left. North’s #1) Matthews-Williams adds a bucket to make it 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair had eight points and North’s #31) Dietrich had 7 points for the first quarter
Second Quarter Summary:
Kirkwood went on a 6-3 run in the first 2:05 in the second quarter which included #1) Telfair’s four points and #22) Breandan Sievers basket and North had a three pointer by #13) Drew Killmer. The score was Kirkwood 20-14. Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair hit two free throws to make it Kirkwood 22-14. North answered back with a 5-0 run with a #3) Aidan McDaniel three and a basket by #1) Matthews-Williams to get Kirkwood’s lead down to three 22-19 with 3:56 left in the quarter. Kirkwood answered with a basket by #2) Damien Loyd to make it Kirkwood 24-19 with 1:36 left. North’s #1) Matthews-Williams hit one of two free throws and hit a three athe buzzer to make it 24-23 Kirkwood at the break. Kirkwood’s Telfair had six points and North’s #1) Matthews-Williams had six points for the quarter.
Third Quarter Summary:
The two teams traded baskets twice and Kirkwood added a free throw by #1) Telfair to make it Kirkwood 29-27. Kirkwood went on a 8-3 run with threes by #2) Loyd and #22) Sievers and a basket by #3) Sam Gunn and North’s points were all free throws by#1) Matthews-Williams to make it Kirkwood 37-30 with 3:56 left. North’s #1) Matthews-Williams scored a bucket with 3:16 left to make it Kirkwood 37-32. The two teams had nine turnovers and five missed shots before Kirkwood’s #2) Loyd hit a basket with a minute left. The las minute the two teams traded baskets to make it 41-34 at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter Summary:
The fourth quarter started with a bucket by Kirkwood’s #22) Breandan Sievers and North answered with two threes by #3) Aidan McDaniel to get Kirkwood’s lead down to three 43-40. Kirkwood’s #22) Sievers got his second basket of the quarter and North’s #12) Killmer to keep the lead at three. Kirkwood’s #3) Gunn hit a two free throws and North’s #1) Matthews- Williams hits a two to keep up with Kirkwood the score was Kirkwood 47-44 with 4:46 left in the game. Kirkwood’s #2) Loyd hits a three and North’s #5) Drew Scheer scored on the next possession to give Kirkwood a 50-46 lead with 4:15 left. Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair hit a basket and North’s #1) Matthews-Williams hits two free throws to make it Kirkwood 52-48 with 3:21 left. Kirkwood finally put some space between them and North with a 8-0 run to make it 60-48 with 1:19 left in the game. Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair scored six of the eight points in the run. North got a three by #3) McDaniel to get the Kirkwood’s lead to single digit 60-51 with 1:02 left. Kirkwood scored five and North scored four to make the final score Kirkwood 65-55.
Game Summary:
Francis Howell North hung in tough till the last two minutes of the game. #31) Fletcher Dietrich kept them in the game in the first quarter, then #1) Justin Mathews-Williams kept them in the game in the second and third quarter and had a team high 23 points. #3) Aidan McDaniel hit a couple threes to keep them close most of the fourth quarter. They had no answer for Kirkwood’s #1) Telfair and #2) Loyd. They were second best and probably second best all the time against Kirkwood.
Kirkwood’s #1) Tahj Telfair had a game high 25 points amd North had no answer for him. When he got in foul trouble #2) Damien Loyd kept it going with 16 points and #22) Breandan Sievers had some big baskets in the fourth quarter and ended up 11 points for the game. Kirkwood stayed tough the whole game and put some space in between the two teams in the late fourth quarter. They were the best team today and probably every day.
