First Quarter Summary:
They traded baskets with Edwardsville winning 8-7 with #13) Mark Smith scoring four points for Edwardsville and #20) Dalton Fox scoring all seven points for West. Belleville West went on a 5-0 run to lead 12-8. The teams traded three pointers to keep West’s lead at four. The rest of the quarter was free throws Edwardsville hitting three for four and Belleville West hitting four for four to make the score after one quarter Belleville West winning 19-14. West’s #20) Dalton Fox had a ten point quarter.
Second Quarter Summary:
Edwardsville started the second quarter with a 4-0 run to get West’s lead down to one 19-18.The two teams traded baskets to make it 21-20. Belleville West went on a 9-5 run to finish the quarter. The last part of the quarter was missed shots and turnovers for both teams. The score at the break was 30-25. Belleville West’s #31) Tyler Dancy had a seven point quarter.
Third Quarter Scoring:
The second half started with a old style 3 point play by #13) Mark Smith. Then West answered with a 7-0 run with #32) EJ Liddell scoring five of the seven. West has a nine point lead now 37-28. #13) Smith adds a basket for Edwardsville and #33) AJ Epenesa went one for two from the line to get the lead down to six 37-31. They trade baskets but West’s basket is a three to finish the quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was Belleville West 41-34.
Fourth Quarter Summary:
Edwardsville started with a 4-0 run baskets by #13) Smith and #33) Epenesa to get the lead down to three 41-38. Belleville West went on a 7-2 run in which #32) Liddell had four of the seven points to make the score West 48-40. Edwardsville went inside to #33) Epenesa to get three layups and there was a basket by West’s #31) Tyler Dancy and two free throws in between the three baskets to make the score West 52-46 with 1: 30 left in the game. Edwardsville had to foul and fouled the wrong player #14) William Lanxon hit four free throws and #32) EJ Liddell hit two free throws  and Edwardsville’s #2) Jack Marinko hit a three and a basket to make the score 58-51 with less than a minute left. #31) Oliver Stephan hit for a basket to get it down to five 58-53. They fouled West’s #14) Lanxon and he finally missed a free throw and the final score was Belleville West 59-53. Belleville West hit their free throws in crunch time with #14) Lanxon hitting seven for eight and #32) Liddell hitting both of his.
Game Summary:
Belleville West almost went wire to wire. They crushed Edwardsville on the boards keeping Edwardsville to one shot in a lot of their possessions. The post players had great games and scored in double figures. The guard William Lanxon hit seven out of eight free throws during crunch time. Edwardsville shot 19 for 51 from the field and four for 22 from the arc which was because of the good defense by Belleville West. Belleville West’s #31) Tyler Dancy scored his career 1,000th point in the first quarter. The last time Belleville West beat Edwardsville was in February of 2011.
Edwardsville lost a 14 game conference winning streak and a 12 game winning streak against Belleville West. Edwardsville was winning only for a few seconds in this game. #13) Mark Smith  and #33) AJ Epeneza tried to keep the Tigers in the game. #13) Smith had a game high 21 points and #33) AJ Epenesa had 14 points but was in foul trouble in the second half. #31) Oliver Stephan a sharpshooter had a tough time hitting from the outside but finished with eight points. Edwardsville shot 29% from the field and from the arc. They were outplayed today and deserved to get the loss.
